What this certification covers and who it is for

The Salesforce Certified Agentforce Sales Foundations exam validates customer-centered selling skills: discovery and sales planning, relationship building, stage-by-stage customer engagement, solution presentation, objection handling, closing, pipeline management, forecasting, and post-sale customer success.

The exam guide describes candidates who develop trusted customer relationships, align with account teams and executive sponsors, and take full ownership of planning, managing, and analyzing their business. The stated skills span customer communication, research, discovery, team selling, value selling, and account planning and strategy.

Salesforce describes the intended audience as sales representatives with six months to three years of experience and lists no formal prerequisite. The exam guide states Winter '24 release alignment; use its current objectives and preparation links when planning your study.

Exam format, fees, and logistics

Expect 40 multiple-choice questions plus up to five unscored questions, 105 minutes of testing time, a 70% passing score, and a US$75 (JPY¥10,000) registration fee with a free retake.

Delivery is proctored, either onsite at a testing center or online. No hard-copy or online materials may be referenced during the exam, so all recall must come from preparation. The unscored questions are randomly integrated, collect performance data, and have no impact on your result, so do not spend exam time second-guessing which ones they are.

Registration fees are US$75 or JPY¥10,000 plus applicable taxes as local law requires, and the retake fee is currently free. At this time the certification has no required maintenance, though Salesforce encourages continued learning through Trailhead and the Trailblazer Community.

The six testing areas and where the weight sits

The outline has six areas: Deal Management at 37%, Planning at 21%, Customer Engagement at 15%, Pipeline Management at 12%, Customer Success at 9%, and Forecasting at 6%.

Deal Management and Planning together account for 58% of the published outline. Forecasting has a smaller weight, but its objectives still require preparation: forecast accuracy, deal risks and opportunities, and the inputs to a forecast.

Note that Planning here means territory and account planning — engaging key accounts and calculating quota attainability — not Salesforce setup. Every objective is written as sales behavior, which is why the guide recommends hands-on experience alongside self-study.

Testing areaWeightWhat it asks you to do
Deal Management37%Qualify prospects, define solution scope from customer goals and challenges, present value, remove obstacles, and close the contract

Deal management gets the deepest preparation

Deal Management is worth 37% of the exam and follows the arc of a sale: qualify before advancing, discover the customer's strategies and challenges, present a value proposition, clear remaining obstacles, and gain commitment to a signed contract.

The objectives reward sequence discipline. Given a scenario, you should identify how to qualify a prospect before moving to the next stage, then determine the customer's business strategies, goals, initiatives, and challenges to define the scope of the solution. Value propositions are judged against those discovered needs, not against product features in the abstract.

Customer Engagement, at 15%, includes building credibility, using multiple touchpoints to explain why a solution meets the customer’s needs, and nurturing product adoption. Compare a discovery example with a post-sale adoption example to practice identifying the different customer outcomes each objective addresses.

A practical study routine is to take each Deal Management objective and write one real example from a deal you have worked: how you qualified it, what discovery revealed, how you handled the key objection, and what secured commitment. This is general advice, not an official requirement, but it matches the guide's recommendation of combining on-the-job experience with self-study.

Worked example: quota attainability and pipeline coverage

The Planning outline includes quota attainability. This original exercise defines a simple expected-value model so you can practice the arithmetic and distinguish a projection from a guaranteed result.

Use only the figures and definitions below. This is a paper model for practice, not a Salesforce forecasting formula or a prediction of an actual exam question.

Practice exercise

Three quarters of a year have elapsed. A representative has closed $540,000 against a $960,000 annual quota. Open deals are A: $250,000 at 50%; B: $180,000 at 75%; C: $100,000 at 30%. Define weighted pipeline as the sum of each deal value multiplied by its stated probability of closing this year. For the baseline, include only these deals. Calculate the weighted pipeline, its shortfall against remaining quota, and the closed-sales shortfall against a straight-line three-quarter-year target. Then consider a separate what-if: additional new pipeline has an assumed expected conversion of 50% within this year. How much additional gross pipeline would fill the baseline expected-value shortfall?

Show answer

Weighted pipeline is $290,000: Deal A contributes $125,000, Deal B $135,000, and Deal C $30,000. Remaining quota is $420,000, so the coverage gap is $130,000. The even pace line at three quarters is $720,000 (three quarters of $960,000), so the representative is $180,000 behind pace, with $540,000 closed. To close the $130,000 weighted gap at an assumed 50% conversion rate, the representative needs about $260,000 in gross new pipeline.

Deal contributions are $125,000, $135,000 and $30,000, totaling $290,000. Remaining quota is $960,000 minus $540,000, or $420,000; the model’s expected-value shortfall is therefore $130,000. The straight-line target is 0.75 times $960,000, or $720,000, giving a separate closed-sales shortfall of $180,000. In the additional-pipeline what-if, $130,000 divided by 0.50 gives $260,000. These are expectations under the supplied assumptions. They do not guarantee the quota will be reached, and the straight-line comparison is a chosen practice benchmark rather than a claim that real sales arrive evenly.

How to prepare and where to go next

Use the official trailmix and the Cert Prep module for Agentforce Sales Foundations, and self-study the outline topics on Salesforce Help, weighting your time toward Deal Management and Planning.

The exam guide recommends combining hands-on experience, a training course, Trailhead trails, and self-study in the outline areas. For self-study, search the topics from each outline line on Salesforce Help and study the related material. Start from the official credential page on Trailhead for scheduling, since delivery options and locale pricing are confirmed there at booking time.

Be clear about the credential's place in the sales certification family. This foundations exam validates selling excellence and methodology for sales representatives. The Salesforce Certified Agentforce Sales Consultant, by contrast, targets professionals who design and implement Sales Cloud solutions that are sustainable, scalable, and contribute to long-term customer success — an implementation-focused credential, not the next step in selling itself.
